Salida Trip

Trip to Salida:

During John and Nancy's visit we decided to go to Salida for a long weekend.  We stayed at one of the campgrounds just outside of Salida and had 2 days of hiking and one day of rafting.  We also enjoyed downtown Salida during the evenings.

Day 1 (Hagerman's Tunnel) - On our drive to Salida we hiked just outside of Leadville along Hagerman's Tunnel.  On our 6 mile hike we saw old mining towns along with an old tunnel for trains that operated from 1887 - 1921.

Day 2  (Brown's Canyon Rafting):  We went rafting in the Arkansas River along Brown's Canyon just outside of Buena Vista.

Day 3 (Mt. Huron): We summited  Mt. Huron at 14,003 ft. This was all of our first 14er by foot!! Evan and I climbed Mt. Evans but by bike.  We hiked about a total of 10 miles and gained 3800 ft in elevation. This summit was rated 4/10 on a difficulty level in one of our hiking books but all of us thought it should have been closer to a 7/10.  John and Nancy did a great job!
